Veterans Affairs in California
"Good evening, fellow Californians.
As an American citizen and a candidate for governor, I stand before you to recognize and honor the men and women who have served this country with courage, sacrifice, and commitment.
Our veterans reflect the strength and character of California itself. They come from every background and every community. Whether they served overseas or here at home, they stepped forward when the country asked, and they carried that responsibility with honor. The freedoms we enjoy every day exist because of their service.
Every veteran should have access to timely and effective medical care. This includes treatment for physical injuries as well as mental and behavioral health needs. I will work to strengthen coordination between VA facilities, community hospitals, and local providers to reduce delays and ensure veterans receive consistent, respectful care.
Too many veterans are caught in California’s housing crisis. I will prioritize veteran focused housing solutions, expand affordable units, simplify access to services, and support rapid housing options for veterans transitioning out of service or facing instability.
Education and workforce integration
Veterans bring discipline, leadership, and real world experience to the workforce. I will support education pathways, job training, apprenticeships, and employer partnerships that help veterans turn their skills into long term careers and economic security.
The invisible wounds of service are real and must be addressed directly. I will expand access to counseling, peer support programs, and crisis response services so that no veteran feels isolated or without help.
Veterans do not serve alone as their families share in the sacrifice. I will support programs that assist spouses, children, and caregivers through childcare support, employment resources, and counseling services that strengthen the entire family unit.
Veterans stood up for this country when it mattered most. Now it is our responsibility to stand up for them. This is not about party or politics. It is about responsibility, respect, and doing what is right. Together, we can build a California where every veteran is treated with dignity and given a fair chance to succeed.
Thank you to our veterans, their families, and everyone who continues to support them. Let us honor their service not just with words, but with action. Let us move forward together, united, resilient, and proud."
